SUNLIGHT Wins the Narrative Feature Jury Award at Austin Film Festival

We’re delighted to announce that SUNLIGHT (2023, dir. Claire Dix) has won the Narrative Feature Jury Award at the Austin Film Festival 2023! “This year, there were 11 Jury Award winners, 11 Audience Award winners, and 17 Script Competition winners. The competitions received over 6,000 film submissions and over 11,500 script submissions.” [Austin Film Festival Press Release, 7 Nov 2023]

Also chosen as a Staff Pick, AFF’s Franny McLarty writes about Sunlight:

“Set against cathartic and self-expressive music that’s enmeshed in the story itself, Sunlight is a raw and charming portrait of two friends on a pivotal day. Leon is a former addict who provides care to his sponsor and terminally-ill friend, Iver. After Iver’s decision to go through with an assisted suicide, Leon decides they need one last day out in Dublin – see the sun, grab a pint, and convince Iver to change his mind. This film is not afraid to make you stare discomfort in the face: the realities of addiction and living with a terminal illness are not pretty. Leon and Iver show how friendship and humor help us cope when life cuts us down – and their day in Dublin invites you to reflect on lifetimes of things unsaid.

Grab a seat, have your heart ripped up, and when you leave you’ll probably want to call someone you love and tell them how you feel.” - 18 Oct 2023
